Since 1983, Collectors Choice Restaurant has evolved from a small local shop into Snohomish's premier destination for both daily dining and special events. Over the decades, we have expanded our facility to include versatile private banquet rooms and full-service catering capabilities, allowing us to host generations of family celebrations and professional gatherings with the same warm hospitality that started it all.

Collectors Choice Restaurant was founded by John and Donna Hager, who met and married in Bellingham, Washington, in 1972. They raised two children, Garth and Eric, and now reside in Burlington, Washington.

Donna opened Collectors Choice on April 28, 1983, as a small soup, salad, and sandwich shop in Snohomish's Historic District, aiming to attract shoppers from the nearby Star Center antique mall. Initially, it was a one-woman operation with just one employee, open from 10 AM to 3 PM.

A year later, John joined full-time after leaving his job in the public school system. The restaurant expanded, tripling in size and adding breakfast to the menu. Two more staff members were hired. By 1985, dinner service was introduced, and the restaurant doubled in size again, operating from 7 AM to 9 PM.

Further expansions followed, including a banquet room for 40 guests in 1987 and a full remodel in 1994-1995, which added a lounge. In 2010, the restaurant moved five blocks to a larger, 7,000-square-foot facility, making it the largest restaurant in Snohomish. The new space was designed to host private events for up to 110 people, becoming a hub for local clubs, organizations, and wedding rehearsals.

Known for its fresh ingredients, welcoming atmosphere, and friendly service, Collectors Choice became a beloved local spot. Donna retired in 2005, and John followed in 2014 after selling the restaurant. He stayed on as a consultant to ensure a smooth transition for the new owners.

Though retired, John and Donna's legacy lives on through the restaurant and their lasting impact on the Snohomish community. Collectors Choice remains a cherished destination for both locals and visitors.

After 31 successful years as the owner/operator of Collectors Choice Restaurant, John Hager decided it was time to retire and pass the reins of this beloved Snohomish establishment to new owners. On September 29, 2014, the restaurant was sold to Barry and Mary Galen. Mary handles the accounting, while Barry manages the day-to-day operations.

Barry, who lives in Everett with his wife Mary and their two daughters, Ruby (22) and Tiffany (20), brings extensive experience to the role. With a career in the food service industry dating back to 1974, Barry has worked in nearly every position, from dishwasher to general management, in a variety of settings, including fine dining, hotels, and even as a breakfast chef at Collectors Choice in 1988. This diverse background made him the ideal candidate to continue the legacy John and Donna Hager built.

Barry is committed to maintaining the traditions that have made Collectors Choice a local favorite while also exploring ways to elevate the restaurant further. Both Barry and John believe Collectors Choice has the potential to become the premier dining destination in Snohomish County.
